IT companies missing 28% of the available employable pool
IT companies use academic percentages as a criterion to eliminate large part of the fresh engineers. Statistical studies show beyond doubt inconsistency and non-homogeneity in these scores across regions, universities and boards. Aspiring Minds did a detailed study of performance of fresh engineers inside large IT companies (Top 10 IT companies in India). Correlation of 10th class and 12th class percentage to performance is 0.1 and 0.18 respectively. Correlation of B.E. percentage to performance is negligible. AMCAT gives a performance correlation of 0.54. Thus, employing these cut-offs, companies lose potentially on 28% of employable pool of engineers.

FEATURED PROFILE - Software Engineer - Fresher/Entry Level
Entry level software engineers form the bulk of hiring for any IT services company. To get the right candidate, one needs to use smart shortlisting criteria. Traditionally, companies have used English, Logical Ability and Quantitative Ability as parameters to hire these candidates. Our recent research shows that using computer programming assessment besides English skills, quantitative ability and logical skills may yield significantly better quality of candidates without affecting and actually improving the supply.
