AMPI: Aspiring Minds Personality Inventory
Aspiring Minds’ Personality Inventory (AMPI) is the first statistically validated personality inventory designed for personality analysis of Indians for providing inputs for selection in corporates. AMPI is based on the
five-factor model, which is by far the only scientifically validated and reliable personality model for job selection.
Inventories based on the five factor model are used across the world for hiring at retail organizations and recruitment of sales personnel. Several scientific studies and meta–analysis show that different combinations of the five factor personality traits strongly correlate to long–term job performance. AMPI’s predictive power is a very reliable objective input to the corporate selection process to improve workforce performance and efficiency.
In the process of AMPI construction, Aspiring Minds research team conducted an extensive study of existing academic and commercial personality inventories across the world. They found that not only were the inventories deficient with regard to face validity (contextual and linguistic), but had little or no evidence of statistical rigor in the Indian context. These inventories are being unfortunately used for the lack of other options. Detailed results of the study are presented here in [

Why use AMPI?
* AMPI measures five broad–based traits: Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, Openness to Experience and Agreeableness. These traits show high correlation with long–term on–job performance.
* A 15 minute inventory, AMPI is probably the quickest way to get feedback on a job applicant with regard to his/her suitability for a job. A detailed instantaneous report generated for the candidate gives the hiring manager a quick objective map of the personality of the candidate.
AMPI Salient Features
* AMPI items are constructed with the Indian context and linguist capabilities in mind. Several user studies are done to ensure face validity of the instrument, such that the test–taker understands the items’ language, words used and is familiar the context of the situation with ease.
* AMPI items are targeted to 0–3 years experience candidates in India. Candidates are not asked questions related to work–life or other situations they may have not faced leading to scale contamination and measurement errors.
* AMPI items have gone through extensive statistical validation to discern the items that load on different trait scales. Entire statistical exercise is based on sampling of items on more than 13000 entry–level job–applicants. Factor analysis and item analytic methods were used to identify the items loading on the five traits of the five–factor model with high reliability. More than half of the items constructed were rejected due to non–validity on statistical analysis.
* AMPI items have been tested and validated for statistical reliability under faking and social desirability scenarios. Different norms are available for such conditions.
* All scales of AMPI have reliability (cronbach alpha) of more than 0.70.
* Multiple statistically constructed norms are available for scoring within applicants of a particular degree, particular experience and the use of inventory for different purposes and scenarios.
* AMPI is the only instrument which has been validated with multiple sales and hospitality sector corporates in India. Certain traits of AMPI show strong correlation with job performance in these sectors and can help improve workforce performance by 25% to 40%.
* AMPI is currently available in English, Hindi and Telugu.
